Children of the World

The 2nd grade has been learning about all the continents and countries in them. Today they had a program where each child had a small speaking part and they sang several songs as a group. Kinsey dressed as a Brazilian woman. This is almost the same costume she wore to World Thinking Day for Girl Scouts.

We tied a scarf around her head and add a few more necklaces.

Back to School 2008

yes, I know it's been almost a month but hey at least I'm posting the pictures...lol! Kinsey's first few days of 2nd grade. She is in Mrs. Jones class and is enjoying it so far.

First day of school getting off the bus. Our pictures from that morning were not that great but this one turned out good.

This is the 2nd day before school and it turned out much better.

First day of first grade!

It was back to school today! Kinsey started 1st grade this morning. She has been raring to go for about a month now. As we got in the truck this morning she told me I could just drop her off at the door but I told her that as her Mama I got to walk her to class on the first day of school...lol!
Here she is ready to go.

Kinsey and Mrs. Rice. I don't know why she is making that face......

Beauty and the Beast

Kinsey's class got to go to the Spencer Theater to see Beauty and the Beast. It was a great production that was geared for kids. The Beast wasn't to scary so the kids enjoyed it. The children from our school were so well behaved. They stayed in their lines and walked with their hands behind their backs. They also looked very nice all dressed up. Kinsey wore one of her new dresses that we bought last week in Roswell. We went to pick out a dress for her graduation and also bought a new sundress. She looked so cute!

Perfect Attendance for the 3rd Quarter and loosing a tooth.

Kinsey had an assembly last Thursday and she received her 3rd Perfect Attendance certificate. Knock on wood, we are going for the full year. She is really loving school and learning so much. It just amazes me when she reads to me. Her class is studying science right now so we have been talking about living and non-living things. We go through our day pointing out these things.

On Sunday morning, Kinsey lost her 3rd tooth. It's been wiggly and pretty much just fell out. She was so excited. The Tooth Fairy brought her $2! We are still waiting for her top teeth to come out. I posted about it being loose around Christmas and it still hasn't come out. I can feel the new tooth coming through but the old one is still hanging on. The new tooth has pushed the old one up against the other front tooth. If if doesn't come out soon, I'm thinking about taking her to the dentist to see if he can get it out.

Spring Music Concert

Kinsey had her Spring Music Concert tonight. It was so cute! The Kindergarten sang several songs and square danced. They had a Hawaiian theme. I got a few good pictures before my camera died. I will have a few more after I snag a few from other Moms.

Remember when the doctor told Neal he didn't have a hernia??

He did! On Monday, January 22, after having a horrible weekend, he went back to his primary doctor and told her he was miserable. He had been in so much pain and couldn't stand it any more. She was able to get him an immediate appointment with a different surgeon who took one look at Neal's stomach and said "You have a hernia". OMG!! I thought my head might explode when Neal told me this. Dr Lindsey scheduled surgery for Tuesday the 30th. Neal was so nervous before hand and wanted to back out but I made him do it. This was out-patient surgery so he was able to leave around noon. We got a prescription filled and headed home. He is sore and a bit grouchy but feeling a lot better. Today was the first day he left the house since his surgery. We went to eat lunch and then I dropped him of at the shop so he could get his truck. He got to visit with some of the guys and get out of the house. I got to go shopping at Wal-Mart...yippeee!
While Neal is recovering, he is attempting to also stop smoking. I'm hoping this is the time he does...for all of our sakes. Neal thought he would go back to work Monday but his boss told him to stay home a bit longer and get better. So at this time I don't know when he will go back to work. He is getting paid so we don't have that to worry about.
I can't tell you the emotions I have gone through thinking about the original surgeon. Dr. Lindsey said Neal's hernia was so obvious and he can't understand why the original doctor missed it. I have composed a letter in my head so many times and honestly would like to go talk to him in person. Neal has had to suffer needlessly for 2 months because this guy had his head up his ass. We are still deciding what to do about it.
In other news, Kinsey is doing great in school. She loves reading and is doing so good. It's hard for me to imagine that she's only been in school for less than 6 moths and can read so well. I now have to be careful what I'm typing or writing because she can read it now...lol!
Just wanted to update on what's going on. Thanks so much for every one's thoughts and prayers. They are much appreciated!

Thanksgiving Dinner at school

Kinsey's school had Thanksgiving Dinner today. Neal and I went up early to see her art work and help her get dressed in her Native American outfit. She is so cute in it! We had a really good lunch of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, 2 rolls and pumpking pie! The rolls were to die for! I can't believe we got two as big as they were.

Here is Kinsey and her Teacher.

And this is Kinsey and her friend Madison. Aren't they cute!?!

Lucky Kinsey

I think Kinsey got her Grandma's and Daddy's GOOD LUCK! Our school district does Character Counts and has monthly drawings for prizes. In kindergarten the teachers give tokens (poker chips ) for doing these things. When you have five tokens, you get to put your name in a drawing for prizes. Last month she won a jump rope. Her name was pulled again this month and this is what she won

Hopefully we get enough snow to go sledding this year. We really missed going last year.

Field trip to the pumpkin patch

Kinsey's class went on a field trip to the Pumpkin patch today. It was a long drive but worth it. Two of my friends rode with me and we had a very nice visit. Kinsey and I both found the perfect pumpkins to bring home. Here are a few pictures

Kinsey and I with our pumpkins. Wonder what I can make with mine??

The nice people at the pumpkin patch had ice cream with raspberry sauce for the kids.

The place we went is called Lavender Spring Ranch. They had dried lavender for sale and it smelled wonderful. They also sell raspberries, black eyed peas, jalepenos, and pumpkins.

School starts in 2 sleeps......

This is how we count days in our house...how many sleeps it is until the event.
Kinsey starts school Wednesday. I can't believe my baby is starting public schools. She will be out of my care for 8 hours a day. This is both a good and a bad thing. Right now we are together pretty much 24 hours a day/7 days a week. I know I'm going to miss her but I think the time apart is going to help us both.
Here's a picture of me on my first day of kindergarten. I'll post a picture of Kinsey on Wednesday.

We're kidless for a week! (and other thoughts)

Kinsey has gone to Grandma and Grandpa's for the week so we are without a kid. After dropping Kinsey off with Grandma we went to Roswell and went shopping at Sam's and Wal-Mart. It was so nice to shop and not have someone asking for a drink, the bathroom, or toys (Ok, Neal found a few toys but he knows he has to wait). Then we went to Red Lobster and had a very nice lunch. I didn't have to cut up anyone's food..yipppeee! When we got home we both took a long nap then had a nice little supper of tuna fish and chips.
Tonight we both have shows we want to watch so we'll be in separate rooms enjoying our evening. I do miss her but really enjoy this week we get every summer. It kind of recharges my batteries.
==============
School starts in 23 days.....only 23 days...wow! Where has the time gone? It just seems like yesterday that Kinsey was learning to walk and getting teeth in. Now she's starting school. I'm sure I'll be the Mom boo-hooing outside the school because yes, I'll miss her but wow! she's grown up so much!
Kinsey is so ready for school. She has learned so much and is ready to read. I was helping her on a website the other night ( www.starfall.com ) and she was just almost getting it. I think a few more times and she will "get" reading.
I'm excited to see how she is going to do in school. Her perception of what school is and what it actually is are pretty far apart. She went for a 2 hour trial day and thought it was wonderful but wait until she's there from 8am to 4pm (we are on a 4 day schedule). I'm sure the first few weeks she is going to be super tired but she'll get used to it.
==============
Don't ya hate trying to decide what to make for dinner?? If I was smart I would make a menu for a week or month and buy the things for that menu so I would just know what to make...but that would just be to easy. I usually buy meat to last a few days then hopefully pull something together about 5:30pm. By 6:30pm we are eating. During the summer we grill a lot so it's not so bad but man in the winter I just about die. I tend to go to my old stand-by's but that gets boring too.
tonight we are having grilled pork chops, chicken rice-a-roni, and a yet to be named veggie. Guess I had better get to dinner...............
